...and I am a trumpet teacher who works with all age groups and skill levels. In the last 14 years,
I have taught over twenty thousand lessons in the Dallas area (Texas, of course).
This web
site covers a lot of ground. Primarily, it is about a breakthrough in trumpet playing, my very specific
and practical method for developing a more efficient and successful trumpet embouchure. But the pages
here also address common myths and misperceptions, and provide developing students with general information
which may help them more smoothly overcome the challenges they face every day.
My book, "The
Balanced Embouchure," is now available. There is nothing else like it in the trumpet instruction marketplace.
To give you an idea of it's content, a few complete chapters are presented here, while other chapters
are excerpted. Yes, the information you're reading is copyrighted. You can, however, download it freely
for your own personal use.
For a detailed outline of the book, including pricing and shipping
information, click onto the "Books" button on your left.
It is my hope to benefit the entire
trumpet community, even though much of this teaching goes against the grain of conventional wisdom and
therefore may ruffle a few feathers. At the least, I know it will provide answers to the students who
keep searching in vain for "the secret" - a way to develop the amazing range, strength and sound demonstrated
by the world's greatest trumpeters.
The truth is, 99% of the great trumpeters play unconsciously,
unaware of exactly what they are doing. But they want to be helpful, so they unintentionally give out
misinformation contributing to a low level of success in our educational systems. Frustrated students
soon conclude that only the naturally gifted can easily make the trumpet work. Everyone else must
struggle.
That belief is false. I can prove otherwise, and I have done so hundreds of times,
often with students whose embouchures were said to be hopeless.
The basic mechanics of trumpet
playing work for everyone. When you understand the mechanics of balance, you will know how to effectively
approach any embouchure problem and solve it, as you will soon see.
So, time to stop talking.
You need to jump right in and find out about a process so simple that it's profound. To navigate this
site in progressive order, click onto the buttons at the bottom of the page. Or, skip around by using
the menu on the left.
Again, welcome! Read on and apply these basic principles, and you too
will succeed at achieving the real goal of every trumpet player - a balanced embouchure.
