MOUTHPIECE INFORMATION

While writing the book, I knew that I didn't want to get into the mouthpiece business, but I felt like I didn't have any choice.  The smaller hardware that most students play on today is, to my way of thinking, designed for embouchures which are not well focused.  The mouthpieces generate way too much edge in the sound, and often an objectionable "undertone."

At this time, I am aware of more choices out there, so I will now bow out of mouthpiece sales, except to my private lesson students.

In the BE book, I recommend mouthpieces by Bobby DeNicola.  Unfortunately, Bobby passed on from this life in November, 2006.  He will be missed, as he was a craftsman and a great human being.  His mouthpieces will become collectors items, I'm sure.

Since completing the book, I've become acquainted with Bruce Lee of NorthernBrass.com.  I highly recommend checking out his website, and emailing him with questions about his GR line of mouthpieces.  He handles only the best hardware, and knows 10 times more than I do about mouthpieces and horns.  Plus, he is also great to do business with.  Tell him that you are playing out of my book, and want to (I assume) get into a smaller mouthpiece.  He will do the rest.

There are undoubtedly several other worthy manufacturers out there.  My experience with them, however, is limited.
